Gastro Journey Review: ZUMA Pop-Up Montenegro

A world-renowned dining experience, reimagined on one of the Adriatic’s most spectacular terraces.

There are restaurants you visit for the food. Others for the setting. And then there are places where the destination itself becomes part of the menu.

This summer, ZUMA Montenegro Pop-Up has brought one of the world’s most celebrated contemporary Japanese dining concepts to Montenegro, creating what is undoubtedly one of the country’s most unique gastronomic experiences.

Perched above the Adriatic, nestled beside Aman Sveti Stefan, the restaurant overlooks the iconic island, the open sea, and the yachts slowly passing along the coastline. Reservations begin at 7:00 PM, making it perfectly timed for golden hour, when cocktails, sunset colors and Japanese cuisine come together in one unforgettable evening.

    A Global Brand, A One-of-a-Kind Location

The Zuma you know, unlike any you’ve seen.

Founded in London, ZUMA has become one of the world’s most recognised contemporary Japanese restaurant brands, with locations in cities including London, Dubai, Hong Kong, New York, Miami, Rome, Madrid and Bangkok. Each destination follows the same philosophy of modern Japanese izakaya dining, while embracing the character of its surroundings. This season, Montenegro joins that global collection through a limited-time pop-up experience.

Yet despite its international reputation, this location feels remarkably unique.

Unlike the energy of the world’s major cities, ZUMA Montenegro offers something impossible to recreate elsewhere: uninterrupted views of Sveti Stefan, the Adriatic coastline, and sunsets that slowly transform the entire landscape into shades of gold.

    The Atmosphere

    Elegant. Vibrant. Constantly alive.

From the moment guests begin arriving, the restaurant develops its own rhythm.

Cocktails circulate through the terrace, music gradually builds, conversations blend into the sound of the sea, while the open kitchen continues its choreography behind the scenes.

Everything feels vibrant. There is movement everywhere, yet nothing feels rushed.

It’s lively without being loud. Sophisticated without trying too hard.

    Our Table Favorites

    Every dish brought something different.

    Every dish brought something different.

We explored a variety of dishes across the menu, and what impressed us most was how every plate carried its own personality while remaining unmistakably Zuma.

The sushi selection immediately reminded us why the brand has earned its international reputation, beautifully balanced, exceptionally fresh and elegantly presented. Among our favourites were the Spicy Tuna Roll, delivering the perfect balance of heat and freshness, the Prawn Tempura Roll, with its irresistible contrast of crispy tempura and creamy wasabi sauce, and the Salmon & Avocado Roll, a beautifully simple combination that lets the quality of the ingredients shine.

The Rock Shrimp Tempura with shiso and citrus mayonnaise was exactly what everyone tells you to order, crispy, light and finished with just enough citrus to keep every bite fresh rather than heavy.

The Black Cod Croquettes with jalapeño mayonnaise offered the perfect balance between creamy and crunchy, while the Chicken Wings with sake, sea salt and lime proved that even the simplest dishes receive the same attention as the signatures.

From the robata grill, the Grilled Sweetcorn with shiso ponzu butter became one of the evening’s biggest surprises. Sweet, smoky and deeply flavourful, it’s one of those side dishes that easily steals the spotlight.

We also loved the fresh salmon and the green salad with avocado, cucumber and wasabi dressing, refreshing, vibrant and the perfect contrast to the richer flavours throughout the evening.

    A Sweet Ending

    The dessert everyone will photograph.

The evening concluded with a warm soufflé served alongside ice cream, finished with a chocolate message reading “Welcome to Zuma Montenegro.”

    Simple, thoughtful and memorable.

It wasn’t just dessert, it felt like the perfect final chapter of the experience.

    More Than a Pop-Up

An experience that already feels iconic.

What makes Zuma Montenegro different isn’t simply the menu. It’s the setting. The sunset. The yachts drifting across the horizon. The iconic silhouette of Aman Sveti Stefan. The vibrant energy that grows as the evening unfolds.

We’ve visited many beautiful restaurants, but few manage to combine world-class cuisine with a location that genuinely feels impossible to replicate elsewhere.

And that’s exactly what makes ZUMA Montenegro special. It’s not just another stop in the brand’s global portfolio.

It feels like one of its most beautiful chapters.

If you’re planning to experience Zuma Montenegro this season, we highly recommend reserving your table in advance. Reservations can be made directly through the official Zuma website HERE.
