Podgorica, Montenegro – October 14, 2025 – Wizz Air, Europe’s largest low-cost carrier in Montenegro, has announced it will open a new operational base in Podgorica in March 2026. The airline will station two Airbus A321neo aircraft at the capital city’s airport and introduce 14 new routes connecting Montenegro to key European destinations.
The new routes, which will launch between March and June 2026, include connections to Barcelona, Basel, Beauvais, Baden Baden, Cologne, Hamburg, Rome Fiumicino, Gdansk, Maastricht, Malmo, Poznan, Rzeszow, Ljubljana, and Wrocław. This expansion is expected to significantly increase seat capacity, with over one million additional seats available annually from Podgorica alone.

József Váradi, CEO of Wizz Air, emphasized the importance of the new base, stating:
“We are proud to deepen our roots in Podgorica and bring new opportunities to the people of Montenegro. This base represents much more than operational growth; it is a long-term investment in the future of mobility, the economy, and Montenegro’s global connectivity.”
The new base also strengthens Montenegro’s position as a growing travel destination. Roko Tolić, CEO of Airports of Montenegro, highlighted the impact on the local aviation infrastructure:

The Montenegrin government welcomed the news as a boost to tourism and economic growth. Minister Maja Vukićević said:
