Montenegro and triathlons: more than a country and more than a sport

Imagine standing atop the rugged cliffs of the Bay of Kotor, where the waters below dance with the reflection of the sun, casting an enchanting glow over the ancient stone walls of medieval towns. As you breathe in the crisp mountain air, the scent of wildflowers mingles with the salty breeze, awakening your senses to the raw, untamed beauty that surrounds you. In Montenegro, nature reigns supreme.

Here, every step is a surprise, adventure awaits at every turn, beckoning you to hike forested trails, paddle through secluded coves, and pedal along winding mountain roads, all against a backdrop of breathtaking scenery that leaves you speechless.

For those seeking the ultimate test of athleticism and exploration, Montenegro offers a playground like no other for active sport and tourism. With its diverse terrain and stunning landscapes, from rugged coastlines to pristine lakeshores, Montenegro sets the stage for an unforgettable triathlon experience.

So lace up your shoes, grab your equipment and dive into the adventure of a lifetime in Montenegro, where every moment is an invitation to embrace the wild beauty of this extraordinary land. Our guide is Mayer Multisport Academy.

Shaping the future of triathlon tourism in Montenegro

Multisport Mayer Academy brought a revolution in the triathlon experience in Montenegro, organizing world-class events that showcase the country’s stunning landscapes and vibrant culture, such as Ocean Lava Montenegro and BLACKLAKE Xtreme triathlon.

These iconic events not only attract athletes from around the world but also serve as a platform to showcase Montenegro’s unparalleled beauty and potential as a premier destination for outdoor sports.

Ocean Lava Montenegro consistently draws in over 500 triathletes from 40+ countries to the historic city of Kotor and BLACKLAKE Xtreme Triathlon pushes the limits of human endurance in one of the planet’s most extreme races. Both events have firmly etched themselves into the annals of brands worthy of attention and widely recognized in the sports community.

As symbols of challenge, resilience and athletic excellence, Ocean Lava and BLACKLAKE Xtreme represent Montenegro’s spirit of adventure and serve as guiding lights for the international sports community.

Through its dedication to fostering athleticism and adventure, Multisport Academy Mayer is not only shaping the future of triathlon tourism but also elevating Montenegro’s global reputation as a top-tier sports destination.

    Turning passion into reality

Every great story begins with a piece of a dream and spark of passion. The relentless pursuit of a vision paves the way for extraordinary journeys. From the humblest of beginnings to the grandest of achievements, the fusion of passion and dream propels us forward and inspires those around us. That is how Igor Majer established Multisport Academy Mayer.

Embarking his own journey towards health and vitality, a desire to share the transformative power of triathlon with others in Montenegro was born and was unstoppable.

Relying on his global triathlon experiences, Majer envisioned establishing the Multisport Academy Mayer as a core of healthy life habits and adventure in Montenegro. His intention, actually, is a hug of beauty and utility, and it is hard to decide which part is more beautiful or useful.

Idea is to inspire individuals, both locally in and globally, encourage them to engage in physical activity, set personal challenges and exceed their boundaries. All of this would also foster a culture of sportsmanship and vitality among the people. Furthermore, through these events, Montenegro would be shown in its finest form, not just as a country of wild beauty and hidden gems, but as a country of welcoming, warm-hearted nation.

    Life beyond finish line

Triathlons have achieved substantial milestones in positioning Montenegro as a hub for sports tourism. By bringing athletes from diverse corners of the globe Multisport Academy Mayer elevated the country’s international profile.

Moreover, its efforts have spurred a cultural shift locally. Multiple activities have raised awareness of the importance of sports and recreation among the local population, contributing to the development of the sports culture in the country.

Beyond their promotional and awareness-raising roles, the triathlon events also have significant financial benefits for the local community. The events attract a large number of visitors, including competitors and their (moral) supporters. These occasions stimulate spending money in the local hospitality establishments, accommodation facilities and other various service sectors, bolstering economic prosperity.

    Cha(lle)nge

Being the first, the forerunner of change is a path fraught with challenges. It demands courage to change the status quo. Yet, despite the obstacles, pioneers of change press forward, driven by a vision of a better tomorrow, knowing that their efforts pave the way for others to follow.

Sports activities as presented by Majer, introduced a new concept in Montenegro. It requires creativity, persistence and a detailed understanding of target markets to make their events stand out and attract the attention of the global triathlon community.

Key challenge is tailoring triathlon events to suit the unique characteristics of hosting locations. Not every setting, whether urban, lakeside or rural is suitable for hosting a triathlon race. Races must be carefully planned with the location in mind to ensure their longevity and success. There have been numerous instances where ambitious plans clashed with realistic possibilities, resulting in short-lived events with no lasting impact.

Furthermore, once a race is firmly established, the challenge lies in promoting it beyond the Balkan borders. The triathlon market is vast, and international event promotion demands substantial effort and resources to attract participants from diverse regions worldwide.

Every challenge is the potential for change, just as the word cha(lle)nge suggests. Majer, leading the charge for sport innovation, stands for this idea, which is why the Multisport Academy extends beyond just race tracks and Balkan borders.

    2024 promises a lot

Majers agenda is pretty tiny for all plans they have. Building on their success of hosting 17 events last year, Academy is expanding  offerings with an additional 10 events, plus traditional, athletes favorites Ocean Lava Montenegro and BLACK LAKE XTREME.

The highlight of the sports calendar this year is the introduction of X-OUT Montenegro – a groundbreaking triathlon concept designed for television audiences.
This thrilling race combines elements of extreme sports with strategic challenges, all set against the breathtaking backdrop of Montenegro’s incredible landscapes, including Mamula islands, Lustica bay, Kotor serpentines, old Montenegrin roads and Pestingrad.

On April 14th, X-OUT Montenegro not only tested participants’ endurance but also fascinated viewers worldwide with its visually stunning presentation.

With a distribution contract already in place to reach over a billion households via cable operators, this event will firmly establish Montenegro on the extreme sports map like never before.

See you at the start line?

Whether you’re a pro or just getting started, at the Multisport Academy Mayer’s  starting line new experiences are waiting for you. There is hardly a better way to start or continue your sports journey if not with Igor Majer.

For two years already, he is on the board of directors of the World Federation of Recreational Sports, FISPT (Federation Internationale Sport pour Tous), recognized by the International Olympic Committee. This important involvement enables Igor to play an irreplaceable role in the advancement of sports and recreational activities worldwide.

Besides organizing sports events in Montenegro, Igor is also involved internationally as an educator, advisor and expert in ensuring quality in the sports events industry.

But the Multisport  Academy Mayer is more than a successful story about sport – it’s a place to connect with like-minded individuals, push your limits and achieve your goals. It is a place where you become a better you.

So, see you at the start and cheer you at the finish line?
